about

This album was composed and recorded in April 2020, as an unofficial One Month Album.

The title came from Oliver Payne, and the album explores my local area, with the field recordings taking a journey from Church Lane, in the north of Sprowston to Catton Park in Old Catton.

Around half way through the month, I decided to include the field recordings. The album was recorded during the Covid19 lockdown. It has been an interesting period, and amongst other things, there has been music related to walking and exploring parts of local area that I didn't know before - walking from my flat in Mountbatten Drive up Spixworth Road, where I almost always listened to the new album by Deep Cabaret - Lancaster-based songwriter Steve Lewis' project.

During this period, I also found Millennium Woods, in Sprowston, on the other side of my flat, and often listened to Evan Parker's solo album released by The Vortex Jazz Club, while walking through these woods. The album documents the discovery of the local area facilitated by the pandemic, as well as exploring a new soundworld made possible by new equipment lent by my school friend Joel Gunning, which perhaps inspired the real meaning of the album title.

On completing the album, and almost the mastering, I took a longer walk around the area, and listened to all three listening parts of this project - the instrumental tracks from this album, the Evan Parker and the Deep Cabaret. The walk included a new route, for me, along Bestow Lane. This discovery of my local area has been really inspiring in this time. I also realised we were planning a gig with this combination of musicians - look out for this at St. Paul's Sessions.

The album is dedicated to trumpeter Peter Evans.
